George Steuart (Agencies) Ltd. was incorporated in 1975, as a wholly-owned subsidiary of George
Steuart & Company, to serve the people of Sri Lanka by marketing of consumer products. In April 1986,
a corporate decision was taken to diversify into the importation, promotion and distribution of diagnostics
and OTC (over-the-counter) products and to gradually venture into the marketing of pharmaceuticals
and nutritional products. Today, the latter has become its main business, providing healthcare products
that improve the quality of life for all Sri Lankans.
Having identified the potential in the pharmaceutical market, the company ventured into agency
distributorship agreements in 1987 to import, promote and distribute pharmaceuticals. Within a relatively
short period, the company was successful in representing reputed pharmaceutical manufactures. At

Today, with improved marketing techniques and given the increased activity of the existing agencies,
George Steuart (Agencies) Ltd. has been able to improve turnover substantially from year-to-year and
has achieved a strong standing in the marketplace. The Company now distributes over 90 products in
100 recognised formulations. Pharmaceutical sales represent approximately 90% of the total turnover.
The Company markets specialized products using highly-skilled promotional and distribution teams.
In a competitive and dynamic market, George Steuart (Agencies) Ltd. has done well within a relatively
short time-span to be within the top seven pharmaceutical distributors in this country. The Company has
also established 3 pharmaceutical retail sales outlets named Steuart Remedica in Ratmalana, Galle
and Steuart Centre at Karapitiya, Galle, which apart from being a retail pharmaceutical outlet also offers
specialist consultations, diagnostic laboratory facilities, eye care and a host of other medical services.
A modern multi-storey offi ce-cum-stores complex was completed in Mount Lavinia and the operational
base of George Steuart (Agencies) Ltd. moved to this location in May 2001.
